I want success similar to that of Steve Jobs. What should I do?

Answer by Balaji Viswanathan:

Sorry to burst your bubble. But, this conversation involving Mozart will be helpful for you.

In short, if you have to ask how you can become Steve Jobs, you can never become a Steve Jobs. Start with simple apps and device hacks to work your way up. If you are lucky and are really committed, maybe you can really leave a mark.

It took more than 3 decades even for Jobs to be truly recognized as an icon. In the meanwhile he slaved hard, had a temporary rise to the peak, thrown from his perch, ridiculed, worked his way back and prove himself all over again with kick-ass products. Now, you want to jump to the 20th step directly without having any past of crossing even 1 step.

There is a top-secret recipe for success. Keep this secret mantra:

What is something useful I can learn right now in 10 minutes that would be useful for the rest of my life?

Answer by Bhargav Bathini:

If you have a hectic schedule in your everyday life and not getting enough time to sleep. There is a way for a better sleep. By sleeping for little more than two hours a day and still feel more refreshed than taking a 12-hour siesta on a bed. No more sneaking naps at the fry station for you!

You just can follow the Uberman Sleep Schedule, and besides having a totally badass name, it's a way to get the maximum amount of essential sleep for your body without wasting hours of precious time you could be using to work or drink or farm for World of Warcraft gold. The schedule consists of taking six, 20-30 minute power naps, every four hours during the day. Of course, this new sleep pattern blows donkey-dick to get used to, but it's a price you have to pay to basically extend your waking life by several years.

The best way to start it off is to just jump right in. Get to sleep at 8pm, set your alarm for 8:30. Get up, play some Call of Duty, sleep again at 12, alarm at 12:30, and so on. After three or four days of this you will start to get high as fuck because of sleep deprivation, and might just want to kill yourself, but don't do it! That would be absolutely counter-productive.

By day 10 or so, your brain will say, "Ok! FINE, we'll do it your way," and will adapt to your new superhuman sleep schedule.

It works because when you sleep normally, your body gets only about an hour and a half of REM sleep, the kind of sleep that is thought to be the most important to keeping your brain sharp. While other stages of sleep help your body to heal and grow, the REM sleep is what makes you feel rested.

The first few days of adjusting are tough because your body isn't getting ANY of this REM sleep, and your brain hates you for it. After the third day, or so, your brain figures out that you mean business, and every time you lay down for one of these naps, dives directly into REM sleep in an attempt to compensate for the deprivation. Do some quick math and that's two full hours of REM sleep, while those who are sleeping normally are only getting an hour and a half. This is a chance to get extra benefits from less number of sleeping hours.

Giving a try may be worth it.

What are some amazing Population Maps?

Answer by Sreeram N Ramasubramanian:

1. World map showing population distribution latitude-wise and longitude-wise.

One very interesting observation from these maps is to note how the maximum population distribution latitude-wise or longitude-wise invariable passes through Mumbai, India.

2. World map if countries had populations according to their sizes.

The map was developed essentially by taking the list of countries in descending order of population and mapping them with the respective countries in the list of descending order of size.
This particular map provides a lot of perspective about how overpopulated most developing nations are.

What is something useful I can learn right now in 10 minutes that would be useful for the rest of my life?

Answer by Praveen Dwivedi:

Set a video as your desktop wallpaper, on Windows 7 or later.

Came to know about this long back and it was pretty fascinating back then.
This can be done easily using VLC player. Open VLC and select Tools > Preferences.

On the Preferences windows, select the Video button on the left.

Under Video Settings, select DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list.

Click Save before exiting and then restart VLC.

Next, select a video and begin playing it with VLC. Right-click on the screen, select Video, then DirectX Wallpaper or by selecting Video from the Menu and clicking DirectX Wallpaper.

If you’re using Windows Aero Themes, you may get the warning message below and your theme will switch automatically to a basic theme.

Now, minimize VLC player and enjoy the show as you work.

When you are ready to switch back to your normal wallpaper, click Video, and uncheck DirectX wallpaper then close out of VLC.
